23–24 February 2027 | Athens, Greece | In-person & Online
Following the milestone 10th edition, the ERPA Annual Summit returns on 23–24 February 2027, bringing the cosmetics regulatory, safety and testing community together in Athens.
From Test Result to Compliance Decision
Testing is an essential part of cosmetics compliance. But the test result itself is only part of the picture.
Which tests are really needed? How should results be interpreted? Who takes responsibility for the conclusions? And how does scientific evidence translate into a compliance decision?
These questions will be at the centre of the 11th ERPA Annual Summit.
Over two days, the programme will connect regulation, enforcement and science, looking at the practical relationship between Responsible Persons, testing laboratories, safety assessors, manufacturers and authorities.
What will we discuss?
Regulatory expectations & responsibilities
How authorities approach market surveillance, what they expect from Responsible Persons, how PIFs and supporting testing data are assessed, and where responsibilities sit when different parties contribute to a compliance decision.
The future of cosmetics testing
The transition from animal testing, the role of in vitro methods and NAMs, the evidence available for safety evaluation, and the scientific and regulatory developments influencing the future of cosmetics testing in Europe.
Microbiological & analytical evidence
Microbiological quality, preservative efficacy and challenge testing, contamination control, impurities, restricted substances and trace analysis, with particular attention to how results should be interpreted and used in safety and compliance decisions.
When is testing enough?
Not every situation calls for more testing. The programme will look at risk-based and proportionate testing strategies, borderline results, deviations, supplier information and the scientific justification needed to decide what is necessary, useful or excessive.
Standards, accreditation & global requirements
How accreditation and ISO standards support confidence in test results, how testing expectations differ between Europe and other major markets, and whether greater international harmonisation could help reduce unnecessary duplicate testing.
From evidence to real-world compliance
The Summit will also look at what increasing testing requirements mean in practice, from ingredients and the supply chain to product development, Responsible Persons and smaller cosmetics manufacturers.
Two Days of Discussion, Not Just Presentations
The ERPA Annual Summit is built around exchange between the professionals dealing with these questions in practice.
Alongside presentations, the 2027 programme includes interactive forums, roundtables and peer-to-peer discussions, creating space to compare perspectives, question current approaches and discuss how regulatory expectations and scientific evidence work together in real compliance decisions.
